SportsMedicine GRANT & Orthopaedic Associates is committed to providing our athletes with the best possible orthopaedic care and experience we can deliver.  We offer quick and comprehensive services at all three of our convenient locations . Our staff is knowledgeable, friendly and helpful and we care about your satisfaction and your outcome.

The board certified and fellowship trained physicians and staff at SportsMedicine GRANT & Orthopaedic Associates work together as a team of highly trained specialists dedicated to the complete care of sports-related and orthopaedic injuries by offering a comprehensive program of prevention, treatment and rehabilitation.

Our continually growing team of experts includes physicians who specialize in orthopaedic surgery and primary care sports medicine, as well as a therapy staff of physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, occupational therapists, certified and licensed athletic trainers and licensed massage therapists.  They are all specialty trained in sports medicine and work together to offer our patients the best in diagnostics, treatment, surgery and rehabilitation.

Our staff will evaluate and treat athletes with the goal of returning them to their particular sports as quickly and safely as possible.  The experience and knowledge of the physicians helps them develop a comprehensive and progressive treatment and rehabilitation plan.  This plan incorporates the use of formal physical therapy and a home exercise plan for the best overall results and outcomes.

The key to our success is the specialized approach we take in the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of these injuries and conditions.   Many injuries are treated in the same way that injuries of professional athletes are, just on a toned-down manner, carefully developed for each individual.

A very important extension our clinical care and treatment is the expertise of certified and licensed athletic trainers (ATC’s) at the high school level.  An ATC can continue the treatment plan at the high school setting, working with each athlete to full recovery in a safe manner.
Safe and Aggressive

Our Sports Medicine Team of experts includes our surgical and non-surgical orthopaedic specialty physicians along with Certified and Licensed Athletic Trainers and sports trained therapists, all of whom evaluate and treat athletes with the goal of returning them to their particular sport as quickly and safely as possible.

Our experience and knowledge helps our team develop a comprehensive treatment and rehabilitation plan that incorporates the use of formal physical therapy, exercises and treatments at the high school setting, and a home exercise plan.  This plan is designed to aggressively rehabilitate injuries in the safest possible manner.  In the high school setting, we rely on the expertise of certified and licensed athletic trainers (ATC) to supervise the rehabilitation programs and keep the athletes on track. This is a vital part of the recovery and care of many athletes.

Prevention, Treatment and Rehabilitation

At SportsMedicine GRANT & Orthopaedic Associates, injury prevention is an important part of our care.  Our physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, physical therapist assistants and certified and licensed athletic trainers work with athletes, coaches and parents in order to help minimize injuries, or minimize the chance of re-injury, by educating them on proper exercises and treatment.

Our Certified and Licensed Athletic Trainers work with high school and junior high schools athletes to help prevent injuries through education and strength and conditioning exercises.  Our athletic trainers also use bracing and taping techniques to help stabilize joints and parts of the body to minimize the chance of injury or re-injury.  When an athlete suffers an injury, our athletic trainers work with our physicians to rehabilitate their injury and return them to their sport in an aggressive, but safe manner.

We also offer non-surgical primary care sports medicine services and a wide array of diagnostic services.
Each year, SMGOA performs hundreds of surgical procedures; from an arthroscopy on a sports injury in our specially equipped operating suites, to total joint replacements and revisions, to spinal or hand surgery. All are performed on the Grant campus for your convenience.
REHABILITATION
Our Therapy Services Departments combine supervised therapy with the latest rehabilitation equipment. Our physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, occupational therapists, certified and licensed athletic trainers and licensed massage therapists provide such services as:
Area of Expertise
SportsMedicine GRANT & Orthopaedic Associates is a multi-disciplined, orthopaedic physician practice. Our physicians specialize in one area of orthopaedics, allowing them to focus on providing our patients with expert care and treatment.
Sports Medicine
The board certified and fellowship trained physicians at SportsMedicine GRANT & Orthopaedic Associates treat professional hockey players and football players, college athletes and high school superstars, junior high athletes and weekend warriors, the active exerciser and the occasional exerciser. We treat all these athletes with specialized care that athletes need and demand. We aggressively attack the problems with non-surgical treatments and/or rehabilitation, or if necessary, perform surgery with the latest techniques and procedures.
Joint Replacement
Many patients have arthritic or degenerative knee and hip joints or have suffered traumatic injuries to their knee or hip.  At, SMGOA, we provide the latest and most up-to-date technology and techniques available to treat and manage their injuries and/or conditions.  If necessary, we may perform total knee or hip replacements, or maybe knee or hip revisions, to help restore an individual’s quality of life by decreasing pain and increasing their functional ability or activities of daily living (ADL’s).  Robert Fada, MD is our Director of Joint Replacement and Revision.
He sees patients at all three of our central Ohio locations, Downtown Columbus, Dublin and in Pickerington.  He also sees patients regionally in Dayton, Ohio and Huntington, West Virginia.
Dr. Fada’s patients come from all walks of life and varied backgrounds.  Many are individuals that have worked hard all their life and have most recently been experiencing joint pain due to arthritis or other disorders.  Other older patients may have suffered a traumatic injury, such as a fractured hip from a fall.  Whether it is conservative non-surgical treatments, or surgical intervention, Dr. Fada works to restore their normal activities of daily living and often…pain free living.

Dr. Fada also has other patients that may be former high school, college or professional athletes who have endured years and years of overuse and have simply worn their joints out and are seeking relief from pain or discomfort.  Dr. Fada also treats these patients in a manner conducive to their goals of a continued active lifestyle.

Spine Health

Paul DeGenova, DO, Director of Spinal Care and Surgery, treats patients that are experiencing orthopaedic back pain and/or other spinal conditions.  He uses various non-surgical treatment options and, if deemed necessary, spinal surgery.    These treatments help decrease pain and increase mobility, both of which can be very debilitating when dealing with spinal problems and conditions.  By decreasing pain we can help a patient continue an active lifestyle, return to work, or successfully resume their activities of daily living (ADL’s).

Shoulder Pain and Conditions

The shoulder is a complex, multi-plane joint that can be injured suddenly or over time with repetitive motions or stress.  Our board certified and fellowship trained physicians treat many different conditions and injuries of the shoulder with non-surgical treatments and rehabilitation and when necessary, surgical intervention.  Our sports medicine physicians who specialize in injuries and conditions of the shoulder include Ray Tesner, DO, Randy Wroble, MD, Rod Comisar, MD, and Tom Rossi, MD.

Hand are and Surgery

With Gary Millard, DO, a board certified and fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon specializing in treating the hand, wrist and upper extremity,SMGOA provides both surgical and non-surgical treatment options giving you the very best in orthopaedic care for hand, wrist, and upper extremity injuries, conditions and disorders.

Terry Philbin, DO, a board certified and fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon, provides excellent care and treatment for many foot & ankle problems.  Whether it is a non-surgical approach, or a problem requiring surgical intervention, Dr. Philbin works with each patient for a fast and safe recovery.  He educates patients on ways to minimize re-injury or to help prevent other injuries.
