INJURY
Injuries Associated with Golf

ABOUT
Even though golf is looked at as a low impact game there are many injuries that can be associated with the sport. Most injuries are due to repeating the swing over and over and a poor swing.

COMMON INJURY
The most common golf injuries are golfer’s elbow (medial epicondylitis) which is inflammation of tendons in the elbow resulting from the repetitive motions of swinging, and lower back pain, often caused from an incorrect swing. In addition to those injuries, many can experience other ankle, knee, hip, spine, elbow or wrist trauma from overuse and repeating the same swing motion.

DIAGNOSIS
Depending on the injury sustained your physician will discuss your symptoms and history with you and then recommend the appropriate treatment.

NON SURGICAL TREATMENT
There are a few things you can do to try and avoid golfer’s elbow. Slow your golf swing to reduce the shock in the arm when the ball is hit and do simple exercises to build the muscles in the forearm. Squeeze a ball or do wrist curls for example. Lower back pain can be avoided by working on flexibility and muscle strength with yoga and pilates for example.
